Collaboratively created in community, I was honored to a co-author of the Principles of Anti-Oppressive Community Engagement for University Educators and Researchers. In response to community feedback, these principles are a living, ever-evolving document designed to reduce harm caused by higher educational research in marginalized communities. With it, we continue to hold institutions accountable.
The Fundamentals of Praxis
In the Fall of 2021, I created an independent study for myself entitled, The Fundamentals of Praxis. Over the course of four months, this class systemically investigated a simple premise: If I freed myself from all the systems of oppression that I exist under, what would my life look like? How do I get free? The syllabus is linked above.
In the process of unpacking and deconstructing my entire life, I found myself writing Love Letters to everyone who helps me engage in my loving, liberatory praxis. In this short blog post, I tenderly recount my love for a dear friend of my whom I affectionately refer to as Malcolm X.
In the Spring of 2020, I was asked to create a panel and host a presentation on any relevant emerging topic within the American Sign Language interpreting field. A written investigation of said presentation is captured above.
Undertaken as a final project for a non-profit communications course, I created a mock communications strategy for the non-profit Family Independence Initiative (FII). This report highlights the organizations strengths and potential growth positions.
Created as a follow-up to Intersectionality and the Deaf Consumer my senior thesis investigated how BIPOC interpreters view themselves and their role in the movement towards Deaf Liberation.
Above is a research proposal looking into equitable approaches that increase literacy rates among low income Black Deaf children.
As a final reflection project for a deeply impactful Food Justice and Community Development course I took, I decided to write a script for a short demonstrating my understanding of the moral complexities of the food system and how we can go about fixing them. This creative take was heavily inspired by a show that perfectly tackles emotionally exhausting, philosophically taxing, and morally consequential material: The Good Place.
