Examining what it means to be Non-Binary
***A critical note: Sex and gender are two separate things. In this piece, I say, "the term non-binary refers to people whose gender does not fit within the traditional binary construction of male or female" As an Intersex person, I find it imperative to address that while a quote like this doesn't reflect sex and gender being two separate social constructs, sex, gender, and beauty are purposefully intertwined to impose several layers of harm and power, which is why I chose to say the construction of male or female. It is the casual association of these concepts that actively contributes to the overlooked harms of the Intersex community, which I cannot and will not actively perpetuate. *** As a final project for a Documentary film making class I was in, we were instructed to create a 5 minute documentary on any subject of our choosing, as an Intersex Gender Liberated Trans Man, I chose to investigate what it means to be non-binary in our current society. While I personally don't identify with the term non-binary, mostly because of its modern connotations (and/or appropriations) with White AFAB androgyny, I chose to include relevant shots of myself to further exemplify Rey's talking points. Most shots contain imagery expressing concepts around gender and gender identity. Rey is a white passing androgynously presenting individual with short straight ear length dark brown hair wearing a flannel collared shirt underneath a dark blue sweater. Several shots depict Travis with various friends. Travis, a tall medium brown skin individual in his early 20s wearing a black headscarf sits in a green wooden chair wearing a cream colored flannelled button up, gray jeans and a brown wrist watch. Travis is seen in a bathroom in only a binder admiring his chest. Travis is seen on a zoom call with Rey wearing a plain white shirt against a white wall.

Documentary Production - ASL - English Interpretation: Sara Perkins Interview
I interviewed my peer Sara Perkins about her experiences and connect to the Deaf community to practice interviewing skills for a documentary film making class I was in. Sara responded to my questions in ASL and I interpreted her answers in English. B roll of Sara interpreting is spliced into the interview at different intervals. Sara is a young White woman in hear early 20s with a round face and shoulder length light brown hair pulled back in a ponytail. In most shots, Sara is sitting against a white wall either wearing a black long sleeve collared button up shirt or a textured olive colored long sleeve shirt with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows. The interpreters voice (my voice) as well as interspersed background music can be heard throughout the piece.
